Floor lamps: flexible and uncomplicated

Floor lamps are just as flexible as you are. Do you want to place a model in the bedroom? Are you looking for a variant for the living room, colloquially known as a floor lamp? Do you think it's time to do some rearranging? Floor lamps are here to stay. The various models usually draw their power easily from the socket and do not need to be fixed to the wall or ceiling. This allows you to move the luminaires from A to B spontaneously. As long as the base of your ceiling washer or the legs of your tripod have enough space, you can easily provide additional lighting and set homely accents with floor lamps at any time.

Direct and indirect lighting? Free-standing luminaires can do both!

Direct and indirect lighting? Free-standing luminaires can do both!

Whether set up spontaneously or planned well in advance as part of the lighting concept - free-standing luminaires can be used as both background and detail lighting. The decisive factor is whether the luminaire you choose emits direct or indirect light.

A ceiling floodlight - as the name suggests - shines upwards. The light is reflected by the ceiling and walls and the room is lit indirectly. It is different when you choose a floor lamp like our Motus Floor 1. The movable luminaire head allows you to place the light precisely and directly where you need it. In this context, it makes sense to ask yourself where you want to place floor lamps and what the purpose of the lighting is. Should the floor lamp in the living room serve as a reading lamp or are you looking for an atmospheric light source for the dining room?

Floor lamps offer variety

Floor lamps offer variety

Are you looking for a floor lamp in black that harmonises with your interior style or do you deliberately want to create a strong contrast? Do you prefer modern designs or does your heart beat for classic arc lamps? Floor lamps are convincing with a large selection both in terms of the different furnishing styles and the materials used.

Models with an articulated arm or a movable luminaire head offer you extra flexibility when it comes to directing the light. In this context, our Motus series deserves special mention. Human movement sequences and movement categories of aerodynamics served as a model for the designs. The heads of the floor lamps can rotate around a horizontal axis, move up and down as well as to the side. If the model you have chosen is also height-adjustable thanks to a joint, as is the case with the Motus Floor 2, the floor lamp adapts to different requirements again and again. The following applies: the higher and larger the area in which you place the floor lamps, the more expansive the models can be.

Practical tip: If moving cabinets, tables and changing rooms is regularly on your agenda, take a closer look at our Anglepoise Type 75. With the right accessories, the classic spring-loaded luminaire can be used as a workstationfloor or wall lamp. With it, you can easily set purely decorative accents, create temporary light sources or set up light islands that structure your room.

Set it up and you're done?

Set it up and you're done?

Even though you can always reposition floor lamps spontaneously, it is advisable to think through a few points before setting them up. Firstly, the design should not dazzle, be reflected on monitors and furniture or block lines of sight. Secondly, the luminaire should emit light where you need it. If the floor lamp serves mainly as a purely decorative element, make sure that it has enough room to work and does not compete with other accessories. Also include the position of the switch in your planning. If you have to look for it under the sofa every time you switch it on and off, the floor lamp will probably rarely provide light in the living room.

Floor lamps often find a place in a corner of the room. Here, the light of upward-radiating versions is optimally reflected, the luminaires are guaranteed not to get in the way and cables for the power supply remain discreetly in the background. In addition, there is little danger of kids accidentally knocking over the floor lamps.

Floor lamps score with functionality

Floor lamps score with functionality

Our floor lamps are not only decorative, but also functional. Our powerful Luxo Free LED floor lamp with dimmable features provides you with light that is individually tailored to your needs. The dim-to-warm function of Motus Floor 1 and 2 goes one step further: if you dim the lighting, the colour temperature also adjusts automatically and becomes warmer. In this way, the floor luminaires can easily adapt to different situations and moods. With an integrated timer, you can also switch off the Motus models automatically after four or nine hours.

Info: The colour temperature measured in Kelvin describes the intrinsic colour of light. A distinction is made between three groups: warm white light (less than 3,300 K), neutral white light (3,300-5,300 K) and daylight white (more than 5,300 K). Daylight white light is the ideal choice for classic work situations where high concentration is required. It becomes more cosy with warmer variants.
