Workplace luminaires speak for themselves

It's no secret: daylight is important for our health. It makes us more active, improves our quality of sleep and makes us more productive and less prone to errors. But since even window seats in the office do not offer sufficient light at all times of the day, task luminaires are a convincing practical addition.

Always at your side: the desk lamp

It is the undisputed number one of workplace luminaires: the desk lamp. Ceiling luminaires generally illuminate the room. The compact desk versions, on the other hand, are convincing because they place the light exactly where you need it. Their declared motto is: flexibility.

Individually adjustable

If you have a lamp with a gooseneck or articulated arm, you can adjust the angle of light incidence individually to the respective situation. A swivelling shade is also useful because, in the best case, the light falls on your work area from the side. Disturbing shadows can be easily avoided: Left-handers place the task luminaire to their right. Right-handed people do it the other way round.

Stable and mobile

As a rule, desk lamps draw their energy easily from the socket. So you can simply move them around on the spur of the moment. Models with a stand make it particularly easy. But designs with a clamping device also switch effortlessly from one side of the desk to the other.

Space there!

Task luminaires with a desk inlet socket and also clamp variants take up virtually no space in your work area. So files, documents, coffee cups and the like can really spread out. Another advantage of fixed luminaires: It is practically impossible to knock them over accidentally.

Do you feel like making it more concrete? Typical representatives of the table lamp are the Luxo L-1 and models of the Anglepoise brand. The Anglepoise 1227 was already designed in 1935. It is considered the original of the spring-loaded lamps par excellence. Its little sister - the Anglepoise Type 75 - offers you an exciting colour palette as a modernised version. It ranges from classic black to metallic blue to bright yellow. With matching accessories, you can also use the colourful desk lamp as a wall or floor lamp.

Fans of Scandinavian style will love our workplace lamps from the Norwegian brand Glamox.

It also goes bigger!

It also goes bigger!

Desk lamps are masters of direct lighting. Their lampshade not only protects the bulb, but also focuses the light. If you want to illuminate a larger area, we recommend models with an elongated head or, alternatively, floor lamps. The down-to-earth versions of the task luminaires are placed at a greater distance from the table. As a result, the illumination of your work area is much more extensive than with a compact desk lamp.

Important: When setting up the floor lamp, make sure that it is not reflected on your monitor or the tabletop.

Direct or indirect light? Both!

The basic brightness of a room is determined on the one hand by daylight and on the other hand by indirect lighting. The walls, the floor or even the furniture reflect brightness and distribute it in the room. This hardly creates harsh contrasts and glare that strain the eye. Ceiling luminaires and wall luminaires are particularly suitable for indirectly illuminating the study.

On the other hand, direct lighting is provided by table lamps or spotlights. These task luminaires focus on a specific object and illuminate it directly. To achieve an even and as pleasant as possible light in the office, it can be said: the mixture makes the difference.

You can either combine different luminaires or opt for a model such as the Luxo Free LED task luminaire. The functional free-standing luminaire directs 70% of the luminosity upwards and 30% to a specific work area.

How bright should it be?

To be able to work effectively at your desk, you need an illuminance of at least 500 lux. Values of up to 1,000 are better.

In any case, a task luminaire with LEDs is a good choice for your desk. The light-emitting diodes shine brightly and clearly, consume little electricity and are also particularly durable. If you also use your workplace as a living area, it may be practical to choose luminaires with a built-in dimmer. This allows you to switch effortlessly from concentration to relaxation mode.

Excursus

How much light a lamp emits in a given period of time is called luminous flux and is measured in lumens.

Lux, in turn, is the unit of illuminance. It reflects the light output in lumens per square metre.

Practical tip

When choosing a light source, pay attention to the colour temperature measured in Kelvin. Warm white light has a value of less than 3,300 Kelvin. Neutral white is in a spectrum between 3,300 and 5,300 Kelvin. Values above this are called daylight white. They have an activating effect and increase the ability to concentrate, so they are made for your task light.

Interesting: Some Glamox luminaires have Tuneable White technology. This allows you to regulate the colour temperature individually.

In our illuminants category, you will find various lamps for your task light. Fans of charming retro designs will love the bulb-style LEDs. They score points not only on the desk. In combination with our pendants, they even look good without a lampshade.
